Shelter Cat Gives ‘Making Biscuits’ Massage to Blind Dog, Spreading Love and Comfort
It’s a well-known fact that cats have a delightful habit of kneading into soft surfaces, a behavior often referred to as “making biscuits.” But for one special cat named Elodie, this charming act of affection takes on an even more heartwarming role – that of providing comfort and love to a dear friend in need. In a touching video captured by the devoted staff of Sunshine Animal Refuge Agadir (SARA) in Morocco, Elodie can be seen giving a soothing massage to Tam, a blind dog bravely battling Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.
Tam has been a cherished resident of the shelter for nine years, and during his time there, he’s cultivated unique friendships with the feline companions that call the shelter home. The shelter itself affectionately observes, “Every day we witness beautiful connections between our residents, who graciously gift him with moments of gentle care and unwavering affection.”
Hazel Skeet, a dedicated volunteer at SARA, shares insights into this heartwarming bond: “Tam regularly shares his bed with at least two cats. All the cats adore him and give him cuddles and massages.” Tam’s battle with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome makes his skin exceptionally fragile, and his joints prone to arthritis. The loving massages from his feline friends provide him with the comfort and solace he needs.
Tam shares his life at the shelter with his sister, Daccia, who also grapples with the same condition. However, their shared challenges don’t deter them from enjoying playtime and a relaxed existence alongside their friends. Skeet affectionately describes Tam’s daily routine: “He spends the rest of his day sitting in the sun or shade, taking in the sounds and smells of the refuge. Occasionally, he will have a young puppy coming up to say hello, which he tolerates, but he mostly prefers to curl up with a cat friend.”
While Tam may be initially cautious around strangers, his genuine affection shines through once he feels comfortable. Skeet reflects, “It takes a while to earn his trust, but once you have, he is a super affectionate and cuddly boy. I feel so privileged now that he recognizes my voice (and smell) and comes over to greet me when I arrive at the refuge.”
This sweet-natured pup has captured the hearts of his many feline companions, all eager to lend a helping paw. It’s evident that Tam is cherished not only by the humans who care for him but also by the feline friends who offer their love and support. One thing is abundantly clear – Tam is surrounded by love, comfort, and unwavering companionship.
