In the picturesque city of Antônio Prado, young Thiago, at the tender age of 13, has become a beacon of hope for countless stray and abandoned dogs. His profound love for animals ignited a unique idea to improve the lives of these furry friends and increase their chances of finding a loving home: giving them baths during his free time.
Thiago’s extraordinary initiative led to the creation of a heartwarming project called “Sou de rua mas to limpinho” (I’m homeless but I’m clean) at the end of 2020. With unwavering support from his father, Thiago embarked on a mission to seek out dogs in need. He shared his inspiration, stating, “At the end of last year, I decided that I needed to somehow do something for the animals. While talking to my father, I told him about my idea of bathing street dogs so they stay clean and fragrant, and people look at them differently on the street.”
However, the journey was not without its challenges. Thiago and his father had to find a way to gain the trust of these often frightened and mistreated dogs. He described the difficulties, saying, “Catching dogs on the street is difficult since they are always scared, and many are victims of abuse.” Thankfully, their efforts received a significant boost when they partnered with the Noah’s Ark NGO, allowing them to bathe dogs that were recently rescued.
This heartwarming project has resonated deeply with the local community, prompting donations of pet shampoo and bath products to support Thiago’s compassionate cause. In addition to the soothing baths, Thiago adorns the dogs with charming accessories, such as adorable hairpins that showcase each dog’s unique personality. His father captures endearing photos of these freshly groomed pups, which are then shared on Thiago’s Instagram account, directing potential adopters to the relevant shelters.
The impact of Thiago’s dedication has been nothing short of remarkable. As of July 1, Thiago has bathed an incredible 97 dogs. His project has not only provided these dogs with newfound hope but has also helped them find new forever homes. Thiago is inspired to continue his mission, and he hopes to inspire others to adopt dogs with love and understanding. As he aptly puts it, “I want people to not be afraid to adopt. It’s the best thing in the world. But let them adopt the dog knowing it’s not a thing or a toy. He is a being who will live a long time and who just wants to give us love.”
